Pirate Party Week Day 1: Scalawag Worthy Invitations

Are you guys excited about Pirate Party Week?

I know that little man is super excited about his pirate party happening on Saturday.
Get ready for a mushy post later tonight because today little man turned FOUR.
I still can't believe how old he is.
He just tells me 'it's okay, mommy. Don't be sad. Boys grow up- that's just what they do".

Sigh.
So they do.

And this one wanted to be a pirate for his birthday so we've gone all out-
pirate food, pirate decor, pirate invitations, and pirate games.
No throwing people to the alligators though. :)

I decided to make the invitations again this year- I think I've done this every year so far.
I like making them personal and choosing my own colors.
Though pirates defintely called for the classic black and red...with some splashes of blue thrown in.

I'm trying to go not 'scary' since it's a four year old party so here's what I came up with for the card...

(the all white background blends in with the blog...sorry 'bout that)

I kept it simple with just red and black...and of course, a little treasure hunt action.

The fun part is dressing them up...
it's where the scrapbooker in me gets to play :)

I threw together two different options to show you what I could have done:

For the first one, I took a piece of black and white faded dot paper from Hobby Lobby and cut it to fit around my invite that was printed out on white cardstock.

I used my wavy cutter from my scrapbooking days to give it a little edge.

You could deck out the envelope too if you really wanted to spice things up!

And quite possibly throw some gold dubloons in there.
(that makes the Jake and the neverland pirate theme song totally go off in my head)

Another second and more simpler option is to just put a small border of the paper along the top and the bottom of the invitation.
Super easy and much less paper is needed :)

Plus, these would fit in the envelopes nicely.

I used my curvy cutter again for these.
And still a little swag on the envelope.

So there ya have it, mateys!!
Are they scalawag worthy invites?

Inviations are important to me because they set the mood for the party...
...maybe I'm just weird though.

But these were easy to make and put together so I think it's a success :)
Plus little man is super excited about where the 'x' on the map might lead too.

Want a sneak peek at more tutorials coming your way this week?
Well, of course...

Don't forget to check back tomorrow to see more pirate fun!!!
I'm off to birthday dinner with little man
(he wanted a bowl of olives!)
So can you guess where we are going?
