Glitter Gourds: A Fall Project Using Krylon Glitter Blast

Have you ever done a project that you just fell completely in love with and were dyyying to show it to everyone?
But you had to wait?

I waited alllllll weekend to show you guys and I'm so excited to show you how these guys turned out.
It all started when Jen from Tatertots and Jello happened to post on her Facebook that she was using Krylon's new glitter blast on a new project.

Hold up.
Wait a minute.
Spraypaint with some glitter in it??

I was in with a capital I.

It just so happened that I was going to be little man and hubby free Friday night so I dashed out to Hobby Lobby to try and find some (since it's only like 4 minutes away)
I pouted when they didn't have it.
But Micheals didn't dissapoint.
Although they were out of the bronze color I was dying to get my hands on.

I snatched up the 'orange burst' and 'sparkling waters' and drove home all excited
(I'm easy to

My mind was seriously going a million miles a minute trying to figure out what to glitter-ize first.
I found some cute plain gourds at Hobby Lobby and knew they had to be it.
Thus...Inspiration hit.

Here's my start pile:

*Glitterblast Spraypaint in Sparkling Waters & Orange Burst
*Krylon Gloss White Spraypaint
*Blank Wood Plaques
*Plain Paintable Gourds (from Hobby Lobby)
*Wood Appliques (Hobby Lobby)

Aren't these just pretty?
They scream...use me!!!

I layered the pumpkin onto the plaque and played with the appliques to see what I liked best.
I loved the circle one on the pumpkin :)

Which means the squash got the cross-looking one.
I hot glued the appliques to each of the gourds but did NOT adhere them to the plaques yet.

the plaques got a nice layer of gloss white.
Pretty pretty.

And then the exciting part happened :)
Pure glitter out of a spraypaint can.
So. Freaking. Awesome.

And this stuff isn't like rolling something in glitter.
It comes out in a steady stream, covers perfectly and then once it dries-
it doesn't flake off.

That was the part I was dying to know.
Whether it was going to get glitter in every known orifice of my house.
Because I was not going to like it then.
But we were instant best friends for life when I rubbed as hard as I could (after it had dried a while!) and nothing brushed off.
Not a single piece of glitter, guys.

Krylon. Genius.

If you've used their faux stone spraypaint, it's a lot like that.
Chunky stream, great coverage.

Here's my gorgeous pumpkin drying.

After they dried, I glued them to the plaques (which I had glazed and sealed with a gloss coat)
The Glitter Gourds were born :)

I may have set up a little photo shoot for them since I loved them so much :)

I realize that the 'sparkling waters' doesn't necessarily scream fall to everyone but that's the beauty of doing your own decor,
it can be however you like :)

And I love this color.
But dont' worry. They'll be plenty more fall colors to go with it.
Isn't it fantastic though??

And the orange burst makes me way too excited...

Have I told you much I love this new paint?

I may have used it on two or four more projects while I was at it :)
And I may just have used all of what I had...

Which just means that I need to run out and try a few more colors, right??

This stuff is definitely going to be making it's way into about a million Christmas projects too.
Just sayin'

So what do you think of my little glitter gourds?
Are you going to be prettying up some plain fall decor?
I think I may need to make a few more... they were so easy and will be so fun to decorate with!!

Like I said,
I have several other glitter projects (and some other fun fall DIY's) coming up :)
So until then...Happy glitterizing!!!
