DIY Patriotic Necklace: My First Ever Jewelry Post!!!

Eek!
It's a day of 'firsts' around here!!

I'm dying to share my first ever jewelry DIY with you guys today
(and kinda sorta gut-wrenching nervous about it!)
AND little man makes his first real trip to the dentist today.
Wish me luck, chickies.

So, I'll go ahead and preface this whole post with the fact that I'm not a pro at this whole jewelry crafting thing and I'll def let you know when I am :)
I just enjoy fiddling around with different ideas, mostly to fix the whole "I can't find a single piece that has the colors/shape/length" I want.

So I will tell you what I did,
but there's probably a million ways to do it even better.
Just being honest here.

But I'm super excited about sharing my little necklace with you because it definitely makes me smile when I see it...
mostly because it has my two favorite colors in it.
I wanted something fun to wear on the Fourth and what better excuse to wear red & turquoise together??

Check out my little ode to Americana necklace I whipped up the other night:

I kinda love it :)
But you know I adore anything blue & red.

Is it considered cheating if I used a necklace I already had and just combined, tweaked and restrung?
Because that's what I did.

Supplies I used:
*White Cord (From Hobby Lobby)
*Red Bead Necklace (already on hand)
*Turquoise Bead Necklace (already on hand)
*Jewelry Cord (Hobby Lobby)
*Super Strong Scissors

The hardest part about this whole process was restringing the turquoise beads.
Those tiny silver pieces did not like being messed with.

Here's the quick & dirty on how I did it:

1. Restring the turquoise beads: I didn't like this huge pendant that was hanging from the turquoise necklace I had, so I took it apart and restrung it on new jewelry cord. I just knotted both ends really well and set it aside.

2. Make minor changes to the red necklace: Seriously this was pretty much left alone because it was just a simple red beaded necklace I had. I merely snipped off the extra chain at the end that is used for adjusting the length. Didn't want that showing when it was all put together. You could easily recreate the necklace with some simple red beads strung together.

3. Attach both necklaces to the white cord: I used the white cord to tie tight knots around both ends of each necklace. I used a separate piece of cord for each necklace so after attaching the cord, I still had two different necklaces because they weren't attached to each other yet.

4. Play with the finishing touches: I toyed with the idea of leaving them separate so I could either wear them together or apart but I ended up liking it much better how it ended up. I wrapped cord around the ends near both necklace and tied a tight knot in the back to secure it. I love the wrapped/nautical-esque look it gave it!

Have I mentioned how much I love the red & turquoise together?
Sigh.

I had a little fun setting up the photo shoot for it :)

It was a simple first try in the jewelry world, but I was proud of myself :)
Little man thinks it looks beautiful but then again, he's my biggest fan I'm pretty sure.

What do you think?
Are you in love with the red & turquoise combo too?

I'm so excited about getting to wear it on the Fourth of July- I think it'll be the perfect accessory!!

Hope you guys are having a great week!
