Easy Kitchen Art & Free Verse Printable!

Before we ever moved into the new house, I had plans to try and lighten up the kitchen.
My dream kitchen is white, white, and more white.
I dream of subway tile & light granite and white cabinets...

But we got quite the opposite in this kitchen.
Don't get me wrong, nearly everything else in the house satisfies my every request.
So dealing with a beautiful- but not white- kitchen was not a deal breaker.

It really is a pretty kitchen- just not what I necessarily would have chosen.
I do like the color of the cabinets though- which is huge considering I majorly dislike most wood-toned cabinets in kitchens.

These aren't super dark but they aren't red.

Anywho.
All that to say, I've been struggling with how to lighten up the kitchen and make it feel more like us.
I've contemplated many, many times the possibility of painting.
But the house is very open concept which means painting the kitchen basically means painting two other rooms. And I haven't settled on that yet.

In the meantime, I'm working on pops of color here & there.
And finding my true 'dream space' in the dining area where my blues & whites can thrive with all the gorgeous molding.

So in an effort to bring in a little color, I whipped up this cute little sign for behind the stove.

You like the oh-so-posed pot right in the middle?
Hubby snuck that in before I realized it made it into part of the photos :)

Oh well, keeping it real I suppose.

I love the simplicity of the verse against the blue washed background.
I used a darker blue first, then washed a paler blue over the top for a 'water color' kind of effect.
Then used my transparency method to transfer the verse onto the board.
I touched it up with a sharpie to make it show up a bit better on the blue.
Then sanded it for a worn finish.

It's surprising how much of a difference a little color can make!!

I created the lettering myself in order to make it fit the board I had but after finishing it up, I realized that it still made a pretty printable all by itself.

So for a super easy DIY version, just print it and frame it!
These black & white prints frame beautifully even in larger sizes so get crazy with it.

This was created for a 5x7 size but could easily be blown up into larger poster sizes.
I get gorgeous poster prints done at Walmart for less than $10.00 depending on the size you want.

I hope you enjoy- it's such a fun quote for a kitchen or dining room!!

Happy Monday friends!!
