Quote Blocks Revamped: OT Style

If you remember a few weeks ago, I posted one of my favorite projecst about my photo blocks.
I'm still waiting for something to become my new favorite, but right now these are it :)

So when the thought popped into my head that I wanted to make something to show my appreciation for the two wonderful occupational therapists that I've been shadowing these past two weeks, a new version of these blocks came to mind.

Have I told you how amazing these past two weeks have been?
I really, really needed this clinical experience to remind me why I'm going through this craziness they call OT school.
I've always wanted to work with Pediatrics but I've been trying to keep an open mind.
They say all students pretty much come in saying pediatrics and then change their minds.

After this clinical... I don't know if my mind can be changed.
My heart is there with those kids.
I love autistic kids with a part of my heart that I didn't know existed.

And I'm forever thankful for the two therapists that have been allowing me to follow them around, ask a million questions and just learn from their amazing experiences they've had.

My therapists kept asking me if I felt like it was a good experience.
I don't know if I could convey how much it has meant to me.

Wow. Sidetrack much?

I guess not really because it all leads to the blocks...

I posted a pic on FB of all the wood I cut the other day:

These are going to be for various projects in the next few months but they sure come in handy all pre-cut :)

I grabbed a couple of my 4x4 cubes and spray-painted them black.
They got a good sanding and then became these cuties:

I put their first initials on the "front" of the blocks in that font I'm still obsessed with from the original cubes.
Then I put a quote that I feel completely encompasses what they are to the kids they work with...

I love it topped with a pretty ribbon & scrap bow.
Gives it the perfect little 'oomph'.

Want to know a little trick?
Some of the ribbons were all crimped and bent from being wrapped around their packages so I just took my straightener to them.
As in, hair straightener.
Perfect, slightly curly pieces of ribbon :)

And of course, the bottom has a little OT bling to it :)

Think they'll like them?
I'm hoping so :)

And I'm super sad that they mean my two weeks are up.
I'd so rather just stay here than go back to school. goes on I suppose.

(oh, and don't worry your pretty heads...there will be plenty of christmas-gift versions of these coming up! Imagine the possibilities...)

Happy Friday!!

  7. Hey Kelsey! This is my first time on your blog-- found your link through TT&J. I am a mom of four and one of my son's is autistic. I have observed hours and hours of pediatric OT, and I LOVE YOU GUYS! As far as I'm concerned, it is the place to be! Thanks so much! I think it is great to be a crafty person who has the training and perspective of an OT, because you can help a number of parents make autism friendly crafts. I have a pin board about an autism friendly Christmas. Got any fun ideas?
